The department’s goal is to provide state of the art education to our students while training work force to tackle food security of the nation is also an objective of the department. The faculty and staff of the department are devoted to excellence in education with the aims to deliver quality academic training including teaching, research and outreach in the areas of crop production, physiology, stress, ecology & environment, seed technology & physiology, plant nutrients management, drought & resource management, arid culture, allelopathy, weed science etc. The students are offered specialized courses leading to Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Agronomy. A large open and lab experimental area is devoted to conduct problem oriented research at graduate and post-graduate levels. The entire faculty of Agronomy Department has Ph.D. as well as Post Doc. from developed countries of the world which ensures high standards of teaching, research and outreach activities. Moreover, Agronomy Department ranked first in terms of impact factor research publications in the university.

The latest innovation of the Agronomy Department is starting M.Sc. Botany Program on Regular/Self Finance basis. The study of plant has an importance for a number of reasons. Plants are a fundamental part of life on earth and good source of oxygen, food, fiber, fuel as well as medicine that allow higher life forms to exist. It is believed that evolution of plants has changed the global atmosphere of the earth. A good understanding of plants is crucial to the future of human societies. To achieve these intentions, there is a dire need to initiate such program which hadn’t been started over here, since the start of Gomal University.
